People were invited to create their own portraits for the ‘Missing’ archive. Referencing Victorian ‘Hidden Mother’ photography, they chose their preferred drape, pose and location to depict their stories.
As the project started to expand nationwide, people would ask somebody else to take their photograph, which they would then forward digitally.
This added an extra dimension to the work, prompting conversations about the person’s story and the concept of being ‘Missing’.
Forty two women created portraits for the project, and each one is shown here.
